What is therapy like?
Therapy is an opportunity to discuss your experiences, thoughts, and emotions with a mental health professional. As a therapy client (i.e., an individual, couple, or family), you identify what you want to change in your life. We then work together to process your concerns, understand what gets in the way of change, and develop methods to overcome obstacles.
I will help you delve deeply into what is going on by asking questions, listening carefully, offering reflections, providing education, teaching skills (e.g., coping with emotions, communication), and collaborating with your other care providers as needed. My hope is that therapy will help you on your journey to where you want to be in your life.
You may be thinking that therapy sounds a lot like what good friends can offer you. In many ways, that is true. A major difference, though, is that therapists are not part of their clients' daily lives. That means I may have observations you had not yet considered or that a friend may not feel comfortable making. In addition, unlike friends, therapists are trained to focus solely on you and helping you work toward your goals. Therapy can be an extra boost of support to help you make the progress you want to make.
What is Marriage and Family Therapy?
Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) are trained and licensed mental health professionals who take into consideration the systems that clients are a part of (e.g., relationships, family, workplace, society). MFTs work with individuals, couples, and families. Please click here to visit the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) website to learn more about MFTs.
Where are appointments held?
Appointments are held in person or via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video teleconferencing system. Appointments are available for clients who are located in New York state.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I am in network with Aetna & Cigna for individual therapy. For all other clients, or those who prefer not to use insurance, I accept credit cards or Health Savings Account (HSA) cards. Payment is due in full at the time of each appointment.
Is there a charge for missed appointments?
Your appointment time is set aside for you. If you cancel or reschedule an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, you will be charged a $70 cancellation fee. Please contact me as soon as possible to let me know you are unable to make your appointment.
